Repeat Prescriptions

To order your repeat prescription from us you can;

  • Drop-in to the surgery and post your counterfoil into the prescription collection box. If you do not have your counterfoil, you must complete a prescription request slip, available at reception.
  • You can now register for Online Repeat Prescriptions by bringing in a form of Photo ID, you will then be given details to register your online account.
  • Post in with an S.A.E. attached.

You can also collect prescriptions when the surgery is closed including weekends. Prescriptions are available to collect from our on site pharmacy, Claughton Pharmacy, and their opening times are Saturday 7.00am to 10.30pm and Sunday 9.00am to 4.00pm.

Please note - Patients are able to have their prescriptions dispensed, as well as receiving any general pharmaceutical advice and additional pharmaceutical services, from any community pharmacist they choose.

Collection Times

Due to the high demand of repeat prescription requests, we are unable to process your prescription in less than 2 working days. Therefore, please ensure you leave enough time to order your prescription.

Medicines Manager

Our repeat prescription service is run by our medicines manager, Sandra Pritchard. She has a wealth of experience and can usually help with any problem.

She can be contacted on 0151-651-4909 between 8.30am and 4pm except Wednesdays.

Sandra and her team will monitor your prescriptions and may ask you to come in for review by a doctor if this is indicated. Our prescriptions are also monitored for cost effectiveness and there may be changes made to your medicines where this might become an issue.

This does not impact on the prescribing of medications to patients and does not impact on a patient's decision regarding where they wish to obtain a pharmaceutical service.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.15
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £105.90
  • 3-month PPC: £29.65

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC On-line

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.
